Native American Basketry Gambling Tray

This basketry gambling tray from southern Oregon was most likely used as described by

anthropologist George Dorsey when visiting the Klamath Tribe in 1900. He wrote:

“…objects are thrown on the ground or are permitted to fall in a basket or bowl, and the

count is determined by the chance of the throw, one side or the other of the objects

having a certain value, either singly or in combinations ; such are the well-known stave

and dice games.”
