1851 Robert Millen Bean's Hard Times

by Richard Shaffer This booklet includes information about George Wright, and Reelfoot - the last grizzly in the Ashland area. Purl Bean and William Wright brought Reelfoot down.

Robert Bean witnessed his friend, who happened to be a slave being whipped  and hit the man who was whipping him in the head with a rock. Robert had to leave Kentucky because of his actions and joined a wagon train bound for Oregon. Purl Bean was Robert's son.
