Chinese listed in 1880 census, report from Father Francis Xavier Blanchet, story of Chinese men Gin Lin (photo included), Wah Chung (and family photo included), & Lim Wang. note: Chinese not welcomed, nor were Negroes (territorial government of Oregon excluded Blacks in 1859 constitution but 3 men did own property, etc.: Samuel Vose--bootblack & barber, Samuel Cozzens--woodcutter, Jackson Berry--farmer) (there were 3 lynching of Blacks) KuKluxKlan history: Luther I. Powell, Fred L. Gifford, Ahcarles Hurd, W.D. Quinn. George S. Burr, Black, was threatened badly, escorted to California border and told to never return. J.F. Hale had to carry a rifle to protect himself, he was threatened badly because he had brought suit against a local prominent Klansman for money owed him. Black man Henry Johnson was strung up, etc., then told to run and he ran for his life.Governor Olcott spoke out agains the Klan, sent Atty. Genl. L.A. Liljequist and agents to investigate incidences in Jackson County. Robert Ruhl of Medford Mail Tribune and George Putnam former editor opposed KKK. Lem Dever of Atlanta wrote treatise on corruption within Klan, which added to strain of floundering KKK in Oregon.

Takelma Indians watched strangers, including gold rush people, encroaching on their land
Jews went to gold rush area and set up businesses , some even did mining. Some Jews: Morris Mensor, wife Matilda Mensor, J.A. Brunner and Brother. Lewis Solomon, Bernard Levy, Gustav Karewski, Abe Fisher, brother Newman Fisher. Max Mueller, Isidore, Simon and Ernest Caro with Simon learning enough Chinese to do business with them.
