Written for the children and grandchildren of the author, she says "this a rambling account of our family history inspired by the movie Roots and a request from my granddaughter.... Her request got me thinking there is so much more to family history than names and dates..." The story begins with Annie Applegate, daughter of Robert and granddaughter of Jesse, married John McKirdy in 1910. However, the author tries to trace both family lines much further back before quickly launching into the story of Annie Applegate McKirdy and family.
