Winter 2025 issue of a quarterly magazine produced by Douglas County Historical Society includes an article on the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)  in Douglas County with photos ; also included is a transcription of an 1845 letter written by Levi Scott, one of the developers of the Applegate Trail in which Scott describes in general description what resources could be found in Oregon " water privileges are second to none in the world." Scott also says "The size and lengthn of the timber is too unreasonable to describe. I have seen none yet that I couldn't see the top of [it] by taking three looks up. " Also in the letter is Scott's opinion about the Hudson Bay Company and a longing for more "Americans" to outnumber the English. Scott offers advise for what to bring and when to start from Independence to get to Oregon;

Letter dated 22 Dec 1853  to E.M. Hill from Hiram Dixon who settled in the Umpqua Valley promoting the advantages of the Oregon County.
