Methodism on the Klamath Reservation, 1871-1891

As early as 1871 and 1872 James Harer was assigned  by the Oregon Conference, meeting in Portland, to "Klamath and Goose Lake"  Where the Reverend Harer preached when he first visited his charge ..... In 1871 the Klamath Reservation was assigned to the Methodist Church. ... L S. Dyer was ssent there as Agent in May 1872 ... [also quotes from Reports of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs about how many log and plank houses were built on the reservation and other interesting conditions... quotes about the missionaries learning the Klamath language so they could preach in the Natives own tongue rather than English.... Dyer had been a member of the Peace Commission and present when General Canby and Thomas were killed.... burial practices....Medicine men forbidden to practice... a description of the building of a Methodist church in 1877 by the Indians in Williamson River... T. F. Royal ,  reported in 1884 "Tribal relations, polygamy, wife beating and slavery, the Indian doctor superstition, the heathen dances and orgies and all
