autobiography starts with herself at 4 years of age remembering 6 months in a wagon train  coming to Oregon.  account adds sequel to "Mother's Memoirs" as remembered by daughter Fredrica Foster Lindsley. mentions father's 1897 document telling of war with the Umatilla Indians in 1878.  Meachams and Fosters didn't use "half-brother/sister terms but thought of themselves as one big family.  had a Chinese cook and a governess for the children.. Alice went to school in Cove, where sister Edith was born. father owned gold mine in the Blue Mountains. sister Edith married Herb Lee. sister Frederica married Carleton T. Lindsley in 1902, a Presbyterian minister's son.
