Hero of the skirmish at Tarbon Bridge (James Edward Thorton)

James Edward Thorton was a member of Lawton's famous band of scouts.  The twenty of them held back 200 Philippinos at Tarbon Bridge.  He was the son of a pioneer of Ashland returned home to open a business.
