Author was a small boy when the Indian Wars happened but his family was involved and repeated stories about it to him as he grew up. The author also interviewed others involved to form the framework of his speech. Includes information about the first donation land claims in the Rogue Valley, , the discovery of gold near Jacksonville, first fights betweens whites and Indians starting in 1828, and mentioning 1836, 1837, 1845, 1851, 1852 leading up to the 1853- 1856 Indian Wars. Also locates the site of the battle of Hungary Hill as being near "the present railway station of Leland."
