Silas J. Day was one of the first residents of Southern Oregon, and he arrived to make his home in 1853, and located a Donation Lake Claim on Little Butte Creek. He immediately enlisted to fight the Indian War of 1855. He was involved in constructing the Southern Oregon Wagon Road which was 343 miles long. In 1870 he was elected county clerk, and later county judge.
