Around the area of the Hanley and Gore ranches, especially the knoll, were many holes about the size of an iron gold box, and crow bar holes for about 18 months. In the early days when Jacksonville was the site of gold mines, this was an era where bandits were common, and robbers were known to bury their bounty in safe places. Treasure hunters, hearing stories of hidden gold, made a lot of midnight holes on these ranches.
