Commercial Aviation Comes To The Rogue Valley
History of Medford Oregon Airports and the early aviation of the Rogue Valley. Medford's strategic location between Seattle & San Francisco entranced the rapid development of Rogue Valley's aviation history. Eugene Ely, the first man to land on a navy vessel, Lindbergh's 1928 landing, the advent of Oregon's first air mail service and the creation in 1934 of United Airlines were all milestones in Rogue Valley aviation history.
A co-production of Southern Oregon Public Television and Southern Oregon Historical Society, the documentary is based on an article by William Alley, Society Archivist/Historian. The program includes original historic film footage and still photography. Newsreel photographer Horace Bromley covered many newsworthy Southern Oregon Events for the COPCO current events newsreels from 1925-1936. Contemporary interviews are with local aviators Hank Hart, Herb Sutton, and Donald Bryan.
There is excerpts from the oral history of Margot Fluhrer, Heinie Fluhrer's widow.
