Fred and Renie Edens Ephemera

  • Memories book for Renie Edens (1909-1989). Includes original newspaper obituary and condolence card to Marjorie (Renie and Fred Edens’ daughter)
  • Memories book for Fred Edens (1909-1981). Includes original newspaper obituary and original funeral notices.
  • One folder of miscellaneous biographical information for Fred and Renie Edens. Includes newspaper clippings, photographs and correspondence.
  • One folder titled “JUDO.” Includes photographs, writings and a certificate related to Fred Edens’ practice of Judo martial arts.
  • One folder titled “Pending Manuscripts.”
  • One folder titled “ROOSTER.” Includes notes, newspaper clippings, and brochures related to the article titled “The Rooster Crow” by Fred Edens. There is a note on the manuscript of the article that it was published in the August 1970 edition of Oregon Outdoors.
  • One folder titled “Misc.” Includes various manuscripts, handwritten notes and correspondence. Manuscripts titles include “The Indomitable Jocko,” “A Traveleze to Tranquility” – likely done as assignments for the Famous Writers School of which he was a student. It looks like Fred tried to get “The Indomitable Jocko” published but it is unclear whether this ever happened.
  • One folder of correspondence from the Famous Writers School of which Fred was a student. The Famous Writers School was an educational institution that ran a correspondence course for writers in the 1960s and 1970s.
  • One envelope titled “Rejection Slips.” Includes notes and letters from publications where Fred had submitted his writings.
  • Seven folders containing Fred’s journals chronicling his and Renie’s everyday life from 1967 to 1973. He calls the series “Debilidad de Fred” or “Fred’s Foibles.” He and Renie had taken Spanish lessons, which will explain his periodic use of the language.

  • One folder of general biographical materials related to Marjorie Edens. Includes photographs, newspaper articles/clippings, writings, certificates and correspondence. Her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, Elementary School Diploma and her OSU Master Gardner certificates are included. Also includes her funeral announcement and eulogy.

  • COUPON, RATION. Four twenty points coupons for processed foods.
  • CARD, GREETING. Set of eight (8) unused “Oregon Ungreeting Cards” from 1973 and 1974. Each card has a different satirical remark about Oregon meant to discourage people from visiting and/or moving to Oregon. Most have to do with the rainy weather, one refers to Gov. Tom Lawson’s public remark inviting tourists to visit Oregon but adding “for heaven’s sake, don’t stay.”
  • ANNOUNCEMENT, WEDDING. For Donn L. Todt and Nan Hannon, 1999.
  • EPHEMERA. Related to Eugene Bennett, includes programs and newspaper articles/clippings.
  • PRINT, PHOTOGRAPHIC. Seventeen (17) b/w prints of Britt Society events. 1960s. Some people and locations identified.
