The Editor's Last Word

Ashland Tidings 5 Oct 1929... U of O have a problem on their hands. A very bright colored girl applied for admission to the University... admitted but ...she wanted room in the girl's dorm.. Protests poured in ..Where is there a mother or fathere who would want a daughter rooming with or adjacent to a colored person?...We do not believe any colored person would expect to mingle with white folks to the extent of rooming with them. Also an answer to the question on 8 Oct 1929 from Mat Thompson stating he would allow his white child to board with a non-white. Again on 12 Oct 2929 Jessie Lee Stratton also responded ...While the American people have assisted the colored people in every respect toward higher education, we have never accepted them as our equals
