Field meet at Rose place in Applegate. Covered bridge; numerous cars and over 150 people lined along road or track for field meet. On back of photo: 'Picture was taken the year that Harry O'Hara was principal of High School, 1915 or 1916.'
Another source {Laura Ahearn- McKee Bridge historian] says this photo was : "The event did not occur at the (Orlando) "Rose place" but rather at the Valley Pride Creamery, today's Moulton Family Wines. The supporting rock wall for the covered bridge remains at Moulton. The May 1915 event was the "Applegate picnic" attended by Governor Withycombe. A procession of automobiles brought him from Grants Pass where he had arrived by train. There are twenty automobiles in the photo - I seriously doubt there were that many cars in all of Applegate in 1915. And everyone in the photo is wearing fancy dress and shoes. Definitely not locals!
