Al was birn in Big Cabin, Oklahoma on a farm, Because of the Dust Bowl, his family moved to Salem, Oregon, and after high school, he married Ruth but was called away to WWII, and then the Korean War. After the war he worked with heavy equipment, eventually becoming Vice President for Pape Brotohers, a large equipment dealer. He retired in 1989 and he and his wife lived at Mountain View Estates. The Almeda fire burned everything, but his daughters took him in.
