This is a beaded wall pocket whimsy in the shape of a boot. These items were made by Native American artisans in the late 19th Century as souvenirs for tourists.Indigenous populations across the United States were forced to repurpose their artisanal and practical skills when they were forcibly removed from their homelands. Their skills, including beadwork and basket weaving provided much needed income to keep their families together and food on the table.
