Built in 1925, the once elegant, nine-story Ashland Springs Hotel had fallen into disrepair and bankruptcy when Doug and Becky Neuman purchased it in 1998. They spent millions of dollars in restoration and reopened it with a new restaurant and spa.
Before embarking on a streak of hotel renovations, the Neumans had lived in Ashland for 10 years, where Doug was a real estate developer. Their next project was the Lake of the Woods Resort, which they renovated and sold. Next, they revamped the Lithia Springs Resort at the northside entrance to Ashland. In April 2013 they took over the former Windmill Inn across Interstate I-5 on Ashland Street, upgrading the existing 233 guest and suite rooms, a large banquet room and other amenities. Their latest project is the Red Lion Hotel in Medford, which they have purchased and renamed “The Inn at the Commons.” They increased room sizes and remodeled its restaurant. The hotel has 118 units and 9,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space across from the new Lithia Motors headquarters.
