A collection of biographical sketches and service records of all the known Civil War veterans buried in the Jacksonville, Oregon, cemetery. There are two Confederate veterans. John McGlothlin, the author, obtained materials from libraries, websites, and the National Archives in order to write a biography on each veteran. References are provided in the book. The book was completed in 2019.
The booklet location in the SOHS Library is the Reference Shelf. The object ID is LIB20019.15
Author's Note: The piece doesn’t include are those who were in the Oregon First Infantry or the Oregon First Cavalry during the war, even though they were later eligible for G.A.R. membership (and some were members). That’s because they replaced regulars when the war broke out and fought Indians, not Confederates. Thus, they were Indian war veterans, not Civil War veterans per se. Put another way, they served during the Civil War but didn’t fight in the Civil War. I did another piece on them
