note: California Place Names by Erwin G. Gudde, Berkeley, 1960: Fort Ord (Monterey) in 1933 War Department named the military reservation Camp Ord in memory of Gen. Edward O.C. Ord

Ord Mountains (San Bernardino) named after the "Ord Group", a number of claims located here by Sandie Lochery about 1876.  the mines named for Gen. Ord, under whom the prospector may have served.
