Lawson Inada's teaching and poetry have been recognized with honors and acclaim. He is a third generation Japanese-American, and in May 1942, Inada, his parents and grandparents were removed from their home and imprisoned in camps. This experience was formative, and Inada produced several works based on this time. Jazz has also influenced his work.
