Fatal Accident; Vaccinating Children

Oregon State Police pickup, ambulance at accident site, police rush young victim to unmarked ambulance / dump truck lying on its side, load of dirt scattered, pan to power pole at an angle / police and wrecker work to extricate bodies from automobile / covering body / J&J Market sign, street sign: intersection of Hanley Road and Beall Lane / pan across site / / doctor examines baby on mother's lap, vaccinates arm, baby cries, mother smiles / closeup of baby / closeup of doctor (Dr. Merkel?) drawing medication / sign: "Stop Measles" / vaccinating toddler, toddler gazes accusingly at camera / doctor gives oral vaccine to baby Killed in accident were tentatively identified as Roseburg residents Richard Wise, 14; Juanita Susan Morberg, 25; and a small boy, one or two years of age. Injured were Paul Wise, "a child believed to be between 3 and 4 years of age, and a girl, about 5 or 6." Admitted to Providence Hospital were a girl believed to be Terry Wise, and a woman believed to be Joan Marie Wise, 33. The driver of the dump truck was not named. See Medford Mail Tribune, March 21, 1968, page 1. "In critical condition at Providence Hospital is Mrs. Paul (Joan) Wise, 33, of Idleyld  Route, Roseburg. Also in critical condition, but at Rogue Valley Hospital, is her daughter, Barbara Jean, 6, who underwent surgery late Thursday. In satisfactory condition at Rogue Valley is Paul Emery Wise Jr., 4. Terry Lou Morberg, 5, who was hospitalized overnight at Providence Hospital, was released this morning. Killed in the accident were Mrs. Douglas (Juanita) Morberg, 25, also Roseburg; her son, Douglas Earl Morberg Jr., 10 months, and Richard Eugene Wise, 14."
