Indigenous Basket Cap

SOHS #700
Indigenous people living in southern Oregon used native plants to make a variety of clothing items as well as for making baskets, sleeping mats, temporary summer shelters and fishnets. This cap, worn by woman, is a twined bowl, with an overlay of bear grass. The design accents are done in Maidenhair fern. The intricate design incorporates geometric patterns in a variety of colors.
