The Medford Rogues minor league baseball team had a banner year in 2017, winning the championship of the Great Western League. Although the Rogues only started playing in 2013, Medford minor league baseball originated in 1948 with the Medford Nuggets, an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Nuggets left the Dodgers and became the original Medford Rogues in 1951. The team folded after a fire destroyed the Medford ballpark during mid-season 1951, and never finished higher than second in its league. After a 16-year hiatus, minor league teams played from 1967 through 1971, first as the Medford Giants for the San Francisco Giants, and then as the Medford Dodgers for the Los Angeles Dodgers. For 21 seasons starting in 1979, Medford fielded an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, first named the Medford Athletics and later the Southern Oregon Timberjacks. From 1967 through 1999, those teams won four league titles. After the parade of professional teams, Medford turned to college leagues in the 21st century, first with the Southern Oregon Riverdawgs from 2000 through 2012.
The present-day Rogues have returned championship baseball to Medford.
